A mother and her partner pleaded not guilty to beating her 2-year-old son to death and then blaming it on a 7-year-old boy.
Rachel Fee, 31, and Nyomi Fee, 28, of Ryton, Scotland, denied accusations that they murdered 2-year-old Liam by “repeatedly inflicting blunt force trauma to his head and body by unknown means” several times between March 15 and 22, 2014.
They also pleaded not guilty to attempting to defeat the end of justice after they reportedly told an emergency dispatcher, ambulance staff, police, family and friends that a 7-year-old boy was the one responsible for their son’s death, reports ChronicleLive.
“The duration of the trial is likely to be eight weeks, though it is difficult to be precise in a case of this nature,” prosecutor Alex Prentice said in a Glasgow court.
The couple was also accused of abusing two boys between January 2012 and March 2014 — reportedly forcing one of the boys’ hands into Liam’s mouth after he was already dead. They also allegedly tied a second boy naked to a chair and beating him if he moved.
Both women are currently out on bail, with a trial set for April 4, 2016.
