A former Chamblee, Georgia, police officer reportedly drank poison in the court room after being found guilty of child molestation.
Kelless Twohearts Lory, 58, was found guilty of two counts of aggravated child molestation and two counts of child molestation, the DeKalb County District Attorney’s Office reported.
The female victim, who is related to Lory, was 9 years old when the molestation began in July 2011. The abuse continued for a year.
Lory had already retired from the Chamblee Police Department when the abuse occurred. He was caught and arrested in 2014.
In court, as a guilty verdict was read, Lory drank an unknown liquid from a vitamin bottle, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.
When Lory arrived at the jail following sentencing, officers discovered that the liquid was poisonous.
Lory was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was treated and survived the attempted suicide.
He faces two life sentences plus an additional 40 years.
