The plea deal for former Subway spokesman Jared Fogle has many outraged, especially convicted child sex offenders who are currently serving time behind bars.
Fogle took a plea deal in exchange for his admittance of guilt to child pornography charges and crossing state lines for paid sex with minors, reports Radar Online. Under the terms of the plea deal, Fogle will serve between five and 12.5 years in prison.
He will also be required to pay restitution to his victims and undergo treatment for the rest of his life.
The sentence is being viewed as lenient by others convicted of lesser similar crimes who were given longer sentences.
Two inmates have sent letters to officials presiding over Fogle’s case asking them to reject the plea deal.
“What a deal,” inmate Scott Petrie wrote to U.S. District Court Judge Tanya Walton Prat. "I would have jumped on that too because in about 10 years[,] Mr. Fogle will come out of prison, be a multi-millionaire still and will still like little or young girls … I know, I’m a pedophile, and the only message his plead [sic] deal is [s]ending is that if your [sic] rich enough you can play but, it will cost you some money and some time."
Thomas S. Ford, an inmate who is serving a 16-year prison sentence for one count of distribution of child pornography, called the plea deal a “slap in the face” to the victims who have suffered because of Fogle’s crimes, Inquisitr reports.
“I understand that Mr. Fogle will be paying restitution to the 14 victims, but the fact that he has assets to throw around does not negate him from being punished for his egregious actions and behaviors,” Ford wrote. “Just the fact that he has 14 VICTIMS is enough to consider a sentence far and away than the reported plea agreement.”
Fogle will be required to pay each of his 14 victims $100,000.
“Please take this opportunity to address this crime with an appropriate punishment that honors the public’s expectation of justice AND that shows the victims of this crime, many of whom remain nameless, that we as a community will not tolerate the willful and deliberate sexual abuse of children,” continued Ford.

Due to the attention surrounding Fogle’s case, he has asked that the judge seal all information related to his medical evaluation and treatment.
