Conservatives Accuse Alec Baldwin of Tweeting Homophobic Remarks

Some conservative activists are pushing for Capital One to fire Alec Baldwin from his spokesman position after Baldwin tweeted angry remarks that conservatives are calling anti-gay.

Baldwin used his Twitter account recently to verbally bash a reporter who accused his wife of being insensitive and tweeting at a recent funeral she attended. After insulting the reporter over Twitter, Baldwin deactivated his Twitter account, as he has done multiple times before for similar reasons, according to the Huffington Post.

Baldwin’s tweets against the reporter included, “[I’d] put my foot up your...ass, George Stark, but I’m sure you’d dig it too much,” and “I’m gonna find you George Stark, you toxic little queen,” according to Fox News.

Jimmy LaSlavia, gay conservative strategist and co-founder of GOProud, and his colleague John Hawkins, a member of RightWingNews, are leading the attack against Baldwin.

The two conservatives are comparing Baldwin’s situation to the recent and strong backlash from the public against celebrity Paula Deen, who said she has used racial slurs in the past. Deen lost many endorsements from large companies after she admitted to her past use of the slurs.

Dan Gainor, vice president of business and culture at Media Research Center, said Deen lost contracts and Baldwin has not been dropped by companies because Baldwin is a liberal and Deen a conservative.

“Companies know the media won't beat them up for keeping Baldwin on board, despite his violent threat and homophobic comments,” Gainor said. “Why? Because he's liberal and the same rules don't apply.”

Baldwin sent a gay rights group an apology for his tweets in a statement Friday. He wrote that his remarks against the reporter “had absolutely nothing to do with issues of anyone’s sexual orientation.”

“As someone who fights against homophobia, I apologize,” Baldwin wrote.

Baldwin reactivated his Twitter account, which no longer contains the controversial tweets.
