Connecticut Man Kills Sick Wife, Reports Incident Two Days Later

A 49-year-old Connecticut man killed his wife by throwing her into a bathtub and beating her, according to the New York Daily News.

The man, John Dewees Jr., allegedly committed the attack after growing tired of taking care of Anja Dewees, his 45-year-old, bed-ridden wife. Dewees Jr. had taken care of his wife for about four years as the woman suffered from liver disease. He reported to cops that the motive behind his attack was “because he was tired of changing diapers every day,” as the warrant for his arrest claims.

Prosecutors believe that Dewees Jr. attacked his wife after a night of drinking and woke up in the morning to find her dead in bed next to him. Details are currently murky because Dewees Jr. has changed his story multiple times, but the medical examiner concluded that the woman died from blunt force trauma.

Dewees Jr. also reportedly wrapped his wife’s body in a deflated waterbed mattress, which he secured with duct tape in order to conceal the smell of her decomposing body.

According to The Courant, Dewees Jr. has been charged with first-degree manslaughter, with bail set at $175,000 and a court date scheduled for June 10. He is also on suicide watch after an attempt to slit his wrists to “be with his wife in heaven,” according to WFSB.
