A 25-year-old woman from Connecticut has been charged with sexually assaulting her friend’s 10-year-old son while she was babysitting for him.
Marybeth Rataic, who is from Willimantic, allegedly had sex with the boy three to four times over a two-week period last August, reports NBC Connecticut. The assaults took place at the family’s home in Meriden while she had been entrusted to watch him and his three siblings. The child’s mother was in the hospital giving birth at the time the crimes took place.
Rataic reportedly has a 9-month-old child. The victim told police she took off his clothes and initiated the sexual acts. She reportedly had sex with him on the living room couch, in his parents’ bedroom and in his bed, where he says she sometimes spent the night and had sex with him as his brothers slept in the same room.
The boy’s mother reportedly began to question whether something was going on after she saw a hickey on the child’s neck.
Rataic denies any wrongdoing and told police the child tried to force himself on her while they were wrestling and tickling each other and that she pushed him off and didn’t tell anyone about it because she was “embarrassed,” reports Myrecordjournal.com.
“Emotionally, she’s torn apart,” said Rataic’s friend Ashley Elliott, who lives in her apartment building.
Rataic has been charged with three counts of first-degree sexual assault and seven counts of risk of injury to a minor/impairing the morals of children. She is being held on $150,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 25.
