In her most fiery speech on the 2016 campaign trail yet, Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton blasted GOP nominee Donald Trump for his stances and qualifications on foreign policy (video below).
On June 2, Clinton delivered a scathing speech in San Jose, California. What had been billed as an outlining of her foreign policy turned out to be a thorough critique on Trump’s past comments and policy proposals.
“He’s not just unprepared — he’s temperamentally unfit to hold an office that requires knowledge, stability and immense responsibility,” Clinton said, according to CNN.
Clinton asserted that if Trump were Commander-in-Chief, he would be liable to start a war if a foreign leader “got under his very thin skin.”
The former Secretary of State listed off past statements that Trump had made, stacking them up to make the case that the business mogul would be dangerous for the country if elected Commander-in-Chief. Clinton deemed his foreign policy a mixture of “bizarre rants, personal feuds and outright lies.”
Clinton also mocked Trump for boasting about his foreign policy expertise.
“He says he has foreign policy experience because he ran the Miss Universe pageant in Russia,” Clinton said. “The stakes in global statecraft are infinitely higher and more complex than in the world of luxury hotels.”
The former Secretary of State also ridiculed Trump for antagonizing U.S. allies such as U.K. Prime Minister David Cameron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel. She stated that the only foreign leaders that Trump has praised are Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un.
“I will leave it to the psychiatrists to explain his attraction to tyrants,” Clinton quipped.
The Democratic candidate proceeded to attack Trump’s proposals that countries such as Saudi Arabia should develop their own nuclear arsenals, withdrawing the U.S. from NATO, ordering military personnel to torture, and executing the families of suspected terrorists.
“Imagine Donald Trump sitting in the Situation Room, making life-or-death decisions on behalf of the United States… deciding whether to send your spouses or children into battle… Imagine if he had not just his Twitter account at his disposal when he’s angry, but America’s entire arsenal,” Clinton said.
Shortly after the former Secretary of State’s speech, Trump took to Twitter to dismiss her critique.
“Bad performance by Crooked Hillary Clinton!” Trump tweeted. “Reading poorly from the teleprompter! She doesn’t even look presidential!”
In the fallout of Clinton’s speech, two of Trump’s proxies gave very aggressive statements against the Democratic candidate.
Former Republican Gov. Rick Perry of Texas, who is campaigning for Trump, gave a colorful response to Clinton’s assertion that the business mogul is thin-skinned.
“Donald Trump will peel her skin off in a debate setting,” Perry told Fox News.
Barry Bennett, a senior advisor in the Trump campaign, blasted Clinton for her use of a private email server while Secretary of State. He asserted that she would never be forthcoming in the current FBI investigation.
“You couldn’t get the truth out of Hillary if you waterboarded her,” Bennett told CNN.
