Cleveland Kidnapping Hero Charles Ramsey Gets Free Burgers For Life

After freeing three women that were held hostage for over a decade in a Cleveland home, more than a dozen restaurants decided to give Charles Ramsey free burgers for the rest of his life.

After a storm of tweets asking McDonalds to honor Ramsey, the fast food chain finally responded, tweeting: “We salute the courage of Ohio kidnap victims & respect their privacy. Way to go Charles Ramsey - we’ll be in touch.”

A number of bistros followed Mcdonald’s lead – Hodges’, a local restaurant where Ramsey works as a dishwasher, created the Ramsey Burger in his honor. The sandwich is modeled after the Big Mac.

“We want to honor our local hero with local food,” said Scott Kuhn, who owns four participating restaurants in Cleveland. “He stopped his meal midway through to help those women. We’re now making sure he has other opportunities to go out and fully enjoy his burger.”

The list of bistros range from Cleveland burger joints to pubs in Pennsylvania.

Ramsey, a neighbor of Ariel Castro’s, was eating a Big Mac, when he first saw on of the three women escape.

“I heard screaming. I’m eating my McDonald’s,” Ramsey said, in a now famous television interview. “I see this girl going nuts trying to get out of the house. I go on the porch and she says, ‘Help me get out. I’ve been here a long time.’”
