Christopher Zimmerman Shot and Killed Neighbor’s 8-Month-Old Puppy In Front Of Children

An Ohio family is demanding justice after their neighbor shot and killed an 8-month-old puppy in front of their two children.

This past weekend, when the dog ran to greet their two sons after they returned from Sunday school, their neighbor, Christopher Zimmerman, suddenly opened fire.

Zimmerman, 64, apparently complained about the dog being off its leash and coming onto his property last month, but the family still believes he used excessive force.

Misty Smith said Zimmerman’s wife “has to tell him over and over, ‘the war is over.’”

The father said he can’t get the incident “out of his mind.”

“Noah was right there,” Martin Smith said. “It was really close. He thought he was gonna get shot. He didn’t know what to do, he just ran for his life.”

Zimmerman was only charged with inducing panic and injuring an animal.

“An 8-year-old boy should never have to witness anything like that,” said neighbor Jan Blausey. “Sunday, he couldn’t even come from upstairs.”

Misty Smith claimed she had seen Zimmerman lure the dog into his yard before. She blogged that she didn’t know why “the same man who would coax Puppy into his driveway would suddenly turn on him and hate him so.”

“He will appear in court [on Wednesday] at 10 a.m., but the only charges are inducing panic and injuring an animal,” Misty Smith wrote. “That doesn’t get him help; that gets him nothing, and we are left with the mess. What I need is someone who can help us make him get help someplace away from a school and a family with 7 children. I cannot get them another puppy as long as that man is there.”

“He is a veteran whose wife has to tell him over and over, ‘the war is over,’” she added. “He needs help before someone is hurt worse. There has to be something that can be done.”

“He’s not in jail, and that makes me nervous because I don't want to see him anymore,” Martin Smith told Toledo News Now.
