Christopher Watson, 19, was arrested and jailed for repeatedly beating his little dog so badly that X-rays showed 29 fractured bones throughout her body.
Coco, a little Shih Tzu-type dog, was left with a broken pelvis, multiple broken ribs and other fractures and bruising.
On Sept. 11, the BBC reported that the Hartlepool magistrates court heard how the “savage” attack left the tiny animal in a condition comparable to having been hit by a car. Hartlepool is a town in northeast England.
Watson was sentenced to 18 weeks in jail and banned from keeping animals for life.
“This dog had suffered such appalling injuries it is harrowing to hear the details,” RSPCA inspector Aislinn Balderston told the court.
“For someone to do something so savage to a small dog who couldn’t possibly have protected herself is disgusting,” he stated. “She would have suffered terrible pain and fear.”
Watson was found guilty of causing unnecessary suffering to a dog by subjecting it to physical violence and causing unnecessary suffering by failing to call a vet and not feeding the animal properly.
Coco, who has been renamed Maggie, is recovering well and is now “playful and affectionate,” the RSPCA reports.
