A father who killed his 7-year-old daughter posted a chilling message on Facebook before taking his own life.
On Nov. 9, Adam Jay Eastman shared a photo on his Facebook page that reads, "Leave me alone, I've had enough." That same night, Eastman's 7-year-old daughter Nia was reported missing when the father failed to drop her off at her mother's house.
An Amber Alert was issued for Nia, but was canceled after 12 hours when authorities found Eastman dead reportedly from self-inflicted wounds in a rural area. Seven hours later, authorities found Nia's body inside of a home about nine miles away, according to the Daily Mail.
The house where Nia's body was found was not connected to the Eastman family, but the property had a "for sale" sign on the front yard. It was located one block away from Nia's school.
Police have yet to reveal the cause of death for Nia and her father.
Ralph Goodale, federal minister of public safety, issued a statement on Nia’s death on Nov. 10, the Calgary Herald reports.
"It is heartbreaking to lose a child, and nothing can ever make that right," he said."I wish to extend my heartfelt condolences to Nia’s mother and family, her community and all those who have been touched by this tragedy. We are all grieving together this most terrible loss."
A woman who knows the family told the Star News that Eastman separated from Nia's mother about two months ago, according to the Daily Mail. Nia was the couple's only child, though Eastman has two other children from a previous relationship.
"He was having mental issues," the woman told the Star News. "Him and his wife split up. It wasn't a good situation."
On Aug. 26, Eastman was charged with domestic assault for attacking his estranged wife. According to court records, Eastman had been in court as recently as Nov. 9.
