Chick-Fil-A Employees At Texas Restaurant Show Support For Police And Local College With New Uniform

Employees at a Conroe, Texas, branch of fast food chain Chick-fil-A showed support for police officers and a local college with a new uniform.

Workers at the College Park restaurant posted a picture on Facebook on Nov. 6 of staff wearing T-shirts with the slogan “back the blue” on the back, IJReview reported.

The message refers to the color of nearby Loan Star College, but is also an indication of support for law enforcement, the store manager says.

“We’re supporting those everyday heroes that protect us. There are [police officer] regulars that eat here all the time, and we just want them to know that,” Eli told IJReview.

The company has shown its support to the police more broadly, including by allowing deputies to lead story time sessions for children at locations across the country.

At its stores in Utah, Chick-fil-A has held fundraisers to assist the families of police officers who have been killed on the job.

IJReview reported a number of incidents where police officers have been refused services at other fast food outlets over recent months, but nobody from Chick-fil-A commented on whether the new uniforms at the Conroe restaurant were a response to this.

The company has been the target of criticism in the past, motivated by the owners' defense of traditional marriage.

In April, students at Johns Hopkins University voted against  the presence of a Chick-fil-A outlet on campus on the grounds that lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender students would feel excluded.

“The SGA does not support the proposal of a Chick-fil-A, in a current or future sense, particularly on any location that is central to student life,” the resolution adopted by the Student Government Association read, reports The College Fix.

Despite no reports of protests in response to the new uniforms being worn by Chick-fil-A employees, the picture posted by IJReview was no longer on Facebook Nov. 10.
