Chicago Police Taser 8-Month Pregnant Tiffany Rent Over Parking Ticket

Publish date:

According to a Chicago police report, eight-months pregnant Tiffany Rent “attempted to take off” after being ticketed $350 for parking her car in a space reserved for the handicapped, outside of a Chicago, Illinois Walgreens when she was shot with a Taser gun.

Tiffany Rent told the Chicago Tribune that she thinks officers would have been aware of her condition: "I was standing at the squad car close enough for him to see that I was pregnant."

However, Chicago Police Department Superintendent Garry McCarthy said: "Well, first of all, you can’t always tell whether somebody is pregnant. So, you want to use it where you are overcoming assault or preventing escape. That’s what it boils down to.”

After getting the citation, Rent tore it up and said: "I ain't giving you (expletive)," according to the police report. That was enough for cops to pull out the taser gun and shoot her.

Rent was then dragged out of her car, forced to the ground and handcuffed.

Joseph Hobbs, the father of her child, suffered a dislocated elbow and was also arrested by police for trying to intervene.

Sharita Rent, Tiffany’s sister, told the Chicago Tribune that some officers on the scene reportedly made “nasty, cruel comments” and told the expectant parents to “call Jesse Jackson.”
