Cherlie Lafleur Arrested for Trying to Flush Baby Down Toilet (Video)

Cherlie Lafleur, 19, has been accused of trying to flush her newborn baby down the toilet at McCaskey East High School in Lancaster, Pennsylvania (video below).

According to CBS 21 News, police believe that she gave birth on Tuesday afternoon in the school's bathroom, tried to flush it down the toilet, but ended up placing it in the trash can.

The dead baby was found at about 10 p.m. on Tuesday night by a custodian, who called the police.

“An autopsy was performed this morning, the autopsy revealed the fetus to be a male approximately 27 to 28 weeks gestation, that is roughly 12 or 13 weeks before the due date,” said coroner Dr. Stephen Diamantoni.

“We cannot always determine if there was a heartbeat at the time, realistically a child this premature is less likely to take a breath normally in controlled situation in a hospital, in an uncontrolled situation, born elsewhere, the likelihood that the child took a breath would be less, not impossible.”

The school's surveillance video footage helped police to track down Lafleur as the suspect.

Lafleur, originally from Haiti, was charged with concealing the death of a child and is being held on $1 million bail, reports the Associated Press.

According to SecretSafe.org, Pennsylvania has a Safe Haven law that allows a mother to leave her child, up to 28 days old, at any hospital in the state without having to reveal her identity.
