A 41-year-old man is in jail after ordering his dog to attack a 9-year-old boy who was bravely trying to protect his mother from her boyfriend during a violent domestic dispute in Lincoln, Neb.
Lincoln Police Capt. Don Scheinost said Cedric Fowler was arrested after the incident on Saturday night.
Police were called to the 200 block of F Street about 8:45 p.m. where a 32-year-old woman was fighting against Fowler. The man had kicked her in the stomach and pushed her down a flight of 12 stairs, WOWT reported.
When the woman’s 9-year-old son tried to jump on Fowler to stop the assault on his mother, Fowler called his dog and commanded it to attack the child. The dog bit the boy on his hand, but the child was able to run to a neighbor who called police.
Fowler left the scene, but later as officers were talking to the boy outside, he pointed to where the cowardly man was hiding nearby. Fowler started running, but was caught and taken to the Lancaster County jail. He faces charges of domestic assault, child abuse, second-degree assault and use of a weapon to commit a felony, according to KLKN TV News.
The mother and son were treated for their injuries at the scene. The boy had a puncture wound to his hand.
There was no information available on the dog except that it is in custody with animal control.
