Caught On Camera: Teacher Placed On Leave For Ripping Off Student's Shirt (Video)

A teacher in Salem, Oregon, was placed on paid leave after she was caught on video ripping off a student’s shirt.

According to reports, Sara Rue started having a panic attack when her teacher got into an altercation with another student. As Rue tried to leave the classroom, the teacher grabbed her by sweatshirt to try and stop her from leaving and pulled so hard that the shirt came ripped off.

“The entire class saw me exposed,” said Rue. “And it was really embarrassing.  I don't know if you, if who saw the video, could hear me crying at the end but I've never cried like that before. Every time I watch it, I want to cry because of how scared I could tell I was, just by the sound of my voice. Just by me crying.”

School administrators say police were called to file a report for a potential criminal case. Since the incident and the subsequent viral status of the video that was posted online, the school has placed the teacher on paid administrative leave.

“The teacher is on paid administrative leave, which is not discipline or an indication of guilt," said school district spokesman Jay Remy. "It's just a status we put people on when we're investigating."

Remy also added that their policy allows for a teacher to use physical force if the circumstances require it and if the force is reasonable, but they’re not sure if this qualifies.

“We'll be trying to determine if that falls under one of those categories or not,” Remy said. “If not, then what happens?”

Tracey Lunsford, a spokeswoman for the Salem anti-bullying group “Bully This”, who posted the video on their Facebook page, says that the teacher was wrong for doing what she did to Rue.

“If I was in the teacher's shoes, she should have let her walk away and dealt with consequences later,” Lunsford said. “Putting hands on her, I don't think there's any excuse for that.”

Rue says she hopes the teacher is fired. Take a look at the video below.
