A stray cat broke out of a shelter after only 20 minutes there, making his way back to the Mississippi woman who had rescued him.

The cat, named Mr. Fancy, battled busy streets and rough neighborhoods to find his way back to Ann Bosche in Lucedale, Mississippi, according to People.com.

It all began last spring one night, when Bosche was out in her backyard with her Miniature Dachshund, Gracie, and discovered an abandoned cat in the bushes looking frail and dirty.

“We get several dogs and cats dropped off in this neighborhood so I figured this was another one,” she says. “What came out from under that bush was a large, beautiful cat with a white tip on his tail. I said, ‘Aren’t you a fancy thing?’”

Bosche tells Care2 she began offering Mr. Fancy some food and water regularly. But with two cats and a dog, her husband believed it would be best for the furry feline to be placed in a shelter for another family to adopt.

“The next morning, I reluctantly loaded him up in a cat carrier and off we went,” she says. “I dropped him off and an attendant took him to the back where the cages are. When he brought me my carrier, he said that the cat was back there banging his head against the iron cage door… I cried the five miles back to my house.”

Bosche went on the animal shelter’s website for the next few days to check if Mr. Fancy had been adopted, but there was no information available. What she didn’t know was that the cat had escaped 20 minutes after she left him at the shelter.

One month later, Bosche woke up at 5:30 a.m. to find her husband talking with someone in the kitchen. When she went to find out what was going on, she saw Mr. Fancy sitting at her husband’s feet.

Bosche started to cry as the cat ran to her. Mr. Fancy had found his way home.

“I think he had a guardian angel looking out for him, directing him back to my house,” she said. “I love him so much and feel we were meant to be together. He belongs here. Mr. Fancy will never want for a home, food or love again.”
