Cadillac Ad Casting Call Sparks Controversy

Cadillac is in hot water after the car company's ad agency put out a casting call on Dec. 9 seeking people who identify as neo-Nazis or alt-right.

A casting notice from Cadillac's ad agency requested "Alt-Right (Neo-Nazi)" between the ages of 20 and 40-years-old for a role in a Cadillac commercial, according to Gizmodo. The posting said the agency was looking for "real Alt-Right thinkers."

After the posting was spotted, it was shared on social media, where it quickly spread and sparked controversy.

One Twitter user wrote in response to the listing: "So [Cadillac], you only want REAL racists in your commercial? Wtf."

Many others condemned Cadillac and their ad agency for the casting call.

Cadillac disavowed in a Dec. 10 Facebook post, according to Gizmodo.

"Cadillac did not authorize or approve a casting notice for an 'alt-right (neo-nazi)' role in a commercial," the company said in the statement. "We unequivocally condemn the notice and are seeking immediate answers from our creative agency, production company and any casting companies involved."

The casting company responsible for the posting, The Cast Station, released a statement explaining the incident, claiming it was a mistake, Reuters reports. An employee of The Cast Station reportedly wrote and posted the listing herself and has since been terminated from her position.

The real casting call for the Cadillac ad, titled "Real People," describes the commercial as a "beautifully artistic spot that is capturing all walks of life in America."

"Standing together as a union," the casting call adds. "This is not meant to be offensive in any way. Just a representation of all sides."

The Cast Station said in the statement, which was shared on its Facebook page, that "Cadillac unequivocally did not authorize this notice or anything like it, and we apologize to Cadillac for the ex-employee's actions."
