Carson City Community Raises $1,000 For 100-Year-Old Veteran Who Was Robbed

After 100-year-old veteran James Sorrentino was robbed at gunpoint about two months ago, members of his community raised roughly $1,000 to help him recover.

The fundraising efforts were spearheaded by Western Nevada College’s Veterans Resource Center, according to IJReview.

“Our efforts are in keeping with our motto of ‘veterans helping veterans,’” said Timothy Galluzi, a member of the group, in an email statement. “The smile on his face made the months of hard work for this event well worth it.”

But Sorrentino proved to be as charitable as his friends after he received the money.

He decided he didn’t need it, and then gave it away to charity.

“I was overwhelmed. But I really don’t need it, so I’ll donate it to charity… I’m just grateful,” Galluzi said. “(It) shows the spirit of the group.”
