A campus cop at Skidmore College in upstate New York was arrested and charged with sex abuse in the first degree and unlawful surveillance after he allegedly took advantage of an intoxicated woman after she passed out.
Robert Gardner Jr., 62, allegedly took the clothes off a 28-year-old woman who he was supposed to be escorting home in Saratoga Springs on Wednesday afternoon.
The victim has been drinking on Saratoga Lake for much of the day, said District Attorney Jim Murphy.
Police say the 35-year veteran campus safety officer took the unconscious woman home, moved her into her yard and removed her clothes.
A neighbor told police he witnessed Gardner taking photographs of the woman on his cell phone as he posed her in sexual positions.
"This is an awful crime,” said Murphy. “The defendant took photographs of this woman's most intimate parts of her body. He allegedly took off her bikini bottom, spread her legs and took very, very, intimate close up shots of her. And I can't imagine what that must be like for her. For him it's resulted in two Class D felonies."
Gardner faces up to 7 years in prison if convicted. He was released on his own recognizance by City Court Judge Jeffrey Wait.
He was suspended from Skidmore without pay.
