A mother was dropping her daughter off at dance class in Los Gatos, California when she was randomly punched in the face by someone in an apparent “knockout game” attack.
“We heard a commotion like a thunk and a scream,” said dance instructor Mariana Sorbal to KPIX 5.
Authorities say that the unidentified woman had just exited the dance studio after dropping her daughter off at class when a man in his 20s approached her and wailed her in the face before fleeing the scene.
“It was in the middle of the day,” recalls Sorbal. “It wasn’t even dark yet, it was full of people. So, obviously they’re trying to look for attention. It’s kind of scary, that someone thinks it’s a game to go ahead and punch people.”
Police say it’s possible that the assault was a part of the controversial “knockout game,” where assailants randomly punch a complete stranger for amusement. The so-called "game" has spread all over the country, with some of the victims reportedly being seriously injured or even killed as a result.
Luckily, the woman in this incident was treated at the scene for non-life threatening injuries. Police are currently searching for the suspect.
