A Wichita man has been arrested for the alleged sexual assault of a 100-year-old woman.
Kasey Nesbitt, 35, was booked into Sedgwick County Jail on suspicion of rape and aggravated burglary, reports The Wichita Eagle.
The 100-year-old woman, who lives alone, told police she was awakened in the night by two intruders, as reported last week by Opposing Views. At around 7:15 a.m. she walked to a neighbor’s home to say people were still in her home.
“She’s a strong and brave woman who was able to give us information,” Wichita police Captain Troy Livingston said of the victim. “She seems to be doing fine, and her family is taking care of her.”
Investigators have yet to determine whether any property was taken from the victim’s home.
“This case was harder for our detectives to even grasp, not just the detectives on the case but all the detectives,” Livingston said. “They were all pretty shocked by this.”
Nesbitt has multiple convictions on his record, mostly for burglary and theft, and has been in and out of prison since 2000. He was released for his last offense in January 2013.
