An Ohio teenager with autism was the victim of a cruel prank this week.
A group of bullies convinced the teenager to take the ALS bucket challenge, but instead of pouring water on him, they poured out a vile combination of feces, urine, spit, and cigarette butts.
The sick joke was recorded on the boy’s cell phone, and his parents released the footage in hopes of raising awareness about bullying.
“Once we found out about it, we were just horrified,” the boy’s mother told local news station Fox 8. “I want these kids held accountable for what they did to him…they targeted somebody who just didn’t really understand what was going on.”
The bullies posted the footage to Instagram.
“I mean, the first thing that popped into my mind was like, why could someone – how could someone do this?” the victim’s brother, Jacob, said. “How could someone really be this cruel to someone?”
The Bay Village Police Department is aware of the incident and has opened an investigation. Detective Kevin Krolkosky said the department hopes to hold the perpetrators accountable.
“It’s disturbing to watch, you can obviously tell that somebody has been taking advantage of there,” Krolkosky said. “Obviously, if possible, we do want to hold those individuals accountable for their actions.”
Krolkosky met with the victim’s parents and said the incident was not just a prank, but a possible crime worthy of juvenile delinquency charges.
The victim’s mom is still left wondering why someone would do this to her son.
“The bucket challenge is supposed to be raising awareness for this disease and now they’ve turned it into a sick joke,” the mother said. “I just can’t understand why kids would do something this cruel.”
