15-Year-Old Brooklyn Teen Charged With Murder Of Mother And Her Boyfriend

A 15-year-old girl in Brooklyn was charged with murder on Jan. 4 after reportedly confessing to the murder of her mother and her mother's boyfriend in late December.

The girl, Destiny Garcia, told police she shot her mother, 38-year-old Rosie Sanchez, and her boyfriend, 40-year-old Anderson Nunez, in their Sheepshead Bay apartment. The New York Post and DNAInfo report that Garcia had alleged that her mother had been abusing her and Nunez had failed to stop her from doing so, which led to the shootings.

Investigators believe Garcia is lying.

New York Police Department Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce said, "We don’t think at all this was an act of self-defense. What she said was basically the mother was physically abusive to her in the past ... she went and got a gun.”

The New York Post reports that Garcia told a 15-year-old male friend who lived in upstate New York that Nunez was trying to rape her, and the tale was apparently convincing enough to get the unidentified friend to leave his boarding school and drive to Brooklyn with a gun.

Garcia reportedly shot her mother in the ear during the confrontation, and then shot at Nunez.  Nunez was still alive after the first shot, but was then shot once in the back by Garcia's friend before Garcia stabbed him more than 30 times, the New York Post reports.

DNAInfo reports that Garcia went to Times Square after the killings to party for New Year's Eve. She reportedly left the bodies sitting in the Sheepshead Bay apartment for several days, staying for a short time with her biological father, Rodolfo Richardson.

Garcia was arrested after police discovered the bodies of Sanchez and Nunez late in the evening of Jan. 3. She has been charged as an adult with second-degree murder and possession of a weapon, and will be in court on Jan. 6.

The unidentified male friend is reportedly still at large.

A neighbor of Garcia and Sanchez, 21-year-old Tiffany Jackson, told the New York Post that there was palpable tension between the two, specifically regarding their body language when they were seen together.

“It looked like they had problems,” said Jackson.
