A Brooklyn man died early this morning after cutting his arm on a broken beer bottle.
Miguel Jiminez, originally from Mexico, left La Cabana Rodriguez at 4 a.m. with a friend. Surveillance video shows the two men fighting outside of the restaurant. Police sources say the men were fighting over the bill.
The men continued to fight, and Jiminez even pulled out a machete for a moment. A witness says Jiminez dropped the machete when he and the friend decided to fight with their fists. Jiminez was dropped to the ground by his friend, landing on a glass bottle. The bottle sliced Jiminez’ biceps, and he began to bleed profusely.
Jiminez chased after his friend, but collapsed in front of a drug store. Bystanders brought nearby cops to Jiminez, and he was transported to Kings County Hospital. He was pronounced dead at 4:30 a.m. due to fatal amounts of blood loss. Police have not been able to locate the man’s friend.
The story draws attention to Brooklyn’s on-going litter problem. In 2010, Brooklyn’s Park Commissioner Kevin Jeffry noted the cities significant trash problem, but said a lack of funds make improving the situation difficult.
"It's going to be a challenge to make sure those projects [get done]," he said. "Money and resources are certainly a problem. There's no way to get around that."
