British golfer Rachel Connor has agreed to a plea bargain for a DUI charge, after being arrested in March for drunk driving with former NFL player Eddie George.
The 21-year-old golfer and George played in the Archie Griffin Celebrity Golf Classic in Manatee County, Florida earlier in the day, reports the Daily Mail.
Later, she was pulled over Sarasota, Florida, while going 40 mph in a 20 mph zone. George was her passenger. The Herald Tribune reports that Connor took a breathalyzer and was found to be almost double the legal limit for DUI.
George, was not charged, but released a statement that said Connor was just a friend who gave him a lift home, according to TMZ.com.
Earlier that day, Connor tweeted a picture of her posing with George at an event (pictured).
As part of her plea bargain, Connor will get 12 months on probation and 50 hours of community service.
The court will likely suspend her driver’s license for 6 months and impound her car for 10 days. However, drivers in Florida can often get their licenses back earlier if they agree to pay more fines.
Connor told TMZ.com: "I made a mistake, one that I will regret for a long time to come and I don't wish to hide from it. I am extremely sorry for letting [my young fans] down and I promise to lead by better example now and in the future."
