Bride-To-Be Killed In Atlanta Car Crash, Left Fiancée Seriously Injured

A Georgia assistant college basketball coach was seriously injured and his fiancee killed instantly in an Atlanta car crash while on their way to get married over the weekend.

According to the Daily Mail, John Redman, 23, and Brittany Huber, 25, were driving southbound Interstate 85 in Meriwether County, Ga., around 7 p.m. in a rainstorm when Redman lost control of 2008 Lexus and crashed into the median at mile marker 33.

The front passenger side of the vehicle where Huber was sitting smashed against a concrete bridge abutment, killing her on impact.

Redman, and assistant coach at Dalton State University, was unconscious when he was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta to be treated for severe head trauma, broken ribs and other injuries.

Dalton State University Athletic Director Derek Waugh released a statement obtained by WECT, saying, “Our thoughts and prayers are with her [Huber's] family at this impossibly hard time. She was an amazing person loved by all who met and knew her.”

Redman and Huber had been engaged since June 2013. Huber posted a photo of the two of them on Instagram, writing: “I can't wait to ride on this journey with him and see what our amazing God has in store for us.”

The couple was en route to Huber's hometown of Mobile, Ala., where they were to be married on Saturday.

Officials said despite the storm that swept across Georgia at the time of the crash, weather did not play a role in the accident.

According to News Channel 9, Huber was a kindergarten paraprofessional at Dalton's City Park School since November 2013.

Redman's mother, former Ladies Professional Golf Association player Susie Kirk, wrote on her Facebook page that she is in shock and punctuated the message with six exclamation marks.

She says her son was in “stable and comfortable condition,” but was on a respirator, intubated and sedated.

Kirk told the Dalton Daily Citizen that a Good Samaritan, a woman who was identified only as Laura, spotted the couple inside the damaged vehicle, walked up to them and joined their hands and recited the “Our Father” prayer. Huber was thought to be already dead by then.

Laura also rescued the couple's dog who was trapped in the car, and took the animal to a veterinarian.
