Boy Allegedly Rapes Classmate After Sex-Ed Class

A young teenage boy in the U.K. confessed recently to raping a female classmate directly following a sexual education class.

The boy, who remains anonymous, reportedly approached the girl following the sex-ed lesson and asked her if she wanted to “try sex.” The girl said no, but the boy took her to a secluded schoolyard area and forced himself on her nonetheless. Both students were 13 years old at the time.

The crime was discovered this year after a school counselor noticed that the female victim seemed unhappy. When the counselor spoke with the girl, she shared the details of what happened. The boy confessed to the crime when questioned by officials.

The boy, who is now 15, has been ordered to check in with police three times a week for the next three months. After this initial period, he will have weekly meetings with police for the next 27 months. He will remain on the U.K.’s sex offender registry the entire 30-month punishment.

The rape sparked discussion amongst education and law enforcement officials about how sexual education should be taught in schools. Katie Russell, a representative from Rape Crisis England and Wales, says lessons need to place more emphasis on the emotional and consensual aspects of sex.

"I would say it highlights the importance of teaching sex and relationships education in schools that focuses not just on the biology and mechanics of sex but about emotions and consent, respect and relationships,” Russell told Mirror. "It is only through genuine education, and much earlier than 13 I would say, that we can help stop this happening."
