Boston High School Junior, Galileo Mondol, Accused of Raping Freshman With Broomstick At Soccer Camp

A Boston high school junior who allegedly raped a freshman with a broomstick at a soccer camp is set to stay behind bars until a hearing on Friday.

Galileo Mondol, 17, and two other 16-year-old students are accused of raping the male freshman and attempting to rape two other students at the school soccer camp on Aug. 25, according to the Boston Herald.

The names of the two other students accused of rape have not been released because they are minors. They are reported to be going through charges similar to Mondol’s in juvenile courts, according to Fox News.

The soccer camp was aimed at bringing students together and building team trust.

Mondol reportedly was not involved in the rape when it started, but joined in midway.

His lawyer, William Korman, said he thinks Mondol “was in the wrong place at the wrong time” and that his client is being used as a “scapegoat.”

"Even the other defendants and the victims said my client had nothing to do with the incident in question," Korman said.

Rachel Eramo, the prosecution’s attorney, said investigators found a bloody tissue and a brown stain on the cabin floor where the assault allegedly occurred. She added that the three boys accused of the rape laughed about the incident afterwards and told their victims “you better keep your mouth shut.”

Eramo said that Mondol told the other boys in the cabin that he “(wanted) to have a crack at that” and then joined in the rape.

Mondol pleaded not guilty to the charges against him, which include aggravated rape, witness intimidation, and assault and battery.

Over the weekend, Mondol was held on $100,000 bail.
