Maile Hampton, a 20-year-old African-American activist, was recently arrested on a felony charge of "lynching" and a misdemeanor charge of obstruction of justice.
Hampton was arrested by police at her home in Sacramento, California, on Monday night for an incident back on Jan. 18 (video below).
A pro-police rally was taking place at the state Capitol when Hampton and others from anti-police brutality group ANSWER Sacramento arrived to counter-protest, noted NewsReview.com.
Hampton allegedly tried to free one of her fellow protesters who was being arrested by police, an act that is called "lynching."
Hampton's arrest spurred another protest on Tuesday during the Sacramento City Council meeting, reports the Sacramento Bee. Hampton's supporters held signs that read, "Free Maile!"
