Bin Laden’s Son-in-Law Sulaiman Abu Ghaith facing Trial in Manhattan?

Osama Bin Laden’s son-in-law Sulaiman Abu Ghaith is reportedly being held in a lower Manhattan jail.

Ghaith is scheduled to appear before a judge in Manhattan Federal Court. There is a chance that he could go on trial in the city that bore the brunt of Bin Laden’s wrath. Ghaith allegedly took part in the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks and served as a mouthpiece for Bin Laden.

The terror suspect is being held at the Metropolitan Correctional Center. The holding location is close to Ground Zero, reports The Daily News.

“The law has a long arm, and justice has a long memory,” U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara said. Rep. Pete King (R-L.I.), who has generally advocated trying accused terrorists at the military court in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, added, “There’s enough evidence on the public record to convict him in civilian court.” King said that Ghaith was in the “top echelons of Al Qaeda.” He also believes that the 47-year-old Muslim preacher was connected to the 9/11 plot.

After the attacks, Ghaith said: “a great army is gathering against you” and called on Muslims to battle against “the Jews, the Christians and the Americans.” He is married to Bin Laden’s daughter Fatima.

Ghaith faces a number of charges, including conspiracy to kill U.S. nationals and providing material support for terrorism, according to the indictment.

“Abu Ghaith’s apprehension and prosecution promises to close another chapter in Al Qaeda’s notoriously violent history of killing Americans,” Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said.

It is believed that the CIA and FBI nabbed Ghaith last week in Jordan. Ghaith was born in Kuwait. He was “smuggled” from Afghanistan to Iran in 2002, according to the indictment. The whereabouts of Fatima, Bin Laden’s daughter by the first of his five wives, are not known at this time.
