Last night on "The O'Reilly Factor" host Bill O'Reilly criticized the Girl Scouts "for hiring a guy in a punk band with homosexual overtones."
O'Reilly was upset about Josh Ackley, of the band The Dead Betties, being hired by the Girl Scouts back in 2008, noted MediaMatters.org (video below).
"The Girl Scouts don't discuss the lives of our employees," Girl Scouts spokeswoman Kelly Parisi told O'Reilly. "We do extensive background and criminal checks. We are a non-partisan, non-political organization."
"You then have to understand the flak when conservative Americans see a spokesperson for the Girl Scouts who is a member or was a member of a punk rock band with homosexual overtones," responded O'Reilly. "They're going, 'What the deuce is going on?' Surely you understand that."
In response, Parisi repeated the non-partisan position of the Girl Scouts.
In December 2013, the conservative website Breitbart.com went after the Girl Scouts for hiring Ackley in 2008 to write their blog.
According to BreitBart.com:
The Dead Betties were part of a movement called “homo-punk,” A Dead Bettie video called "George’s Mr.s Right" (sic) shows a naked man—perhaps Ackley, though the subject's faced is obscured—covered in newspapers, writhing on the ground, touching his genitals, feigning masturbation, intercut with brief footage of a scantily-clad woman. Later, the man is in the shower washing blood off his legs with dollar bills. We don't see the woman again.
According to MediaMatters.org, the writer of the Breitbart.com article is Austin Ruse, who has led "a smear campaign" against Ackley "since late 2011, in conservative publications like The Washington Times and National Review Online."
