Indiana Mayor Arrested After Hiring Alleged Prostitute With HIV

An Indiana mayor was arrested in a prostitution case. Indiana State Police said the 60-year-old mayor of Batesville, Indiana, paid another man for sex acts in June, WLWT reported.

Following his arrest on Aug. 11, Mayor Richard C. Fledderman is facing a charge of patronizing a prostitute.

“You can go around any street in this town,” Andy Gutzwiller, a resident of Batesville, said. “It’s definitely the talk of the town.”

The alleged prostitute whom Fledderman solicited was also arrested on Aug. 11. Randy Wigle-Stevens, 42, of Indianapolis, was charged with a level six felony and two class “A” misdemeanors in connection with the investigation, according to Fox 59. His charges include prostitution, intimidation and failure to disclose dangerous communicable disease status, which is a felony.

Officers said Wigle-Stevens failed to disclose that he was HIV-positive before engaging in the sex acts with Fledderman.

Additionally, investigators said Wigle-Stevens blackmailed Fledderman after the encounter. Wigle-Stevens threatened to take the information public unless the mayor paid him more money, reports RTV 6.

Court documents reveal that Wigle-Stevens went to a hospital in July, claiming Fledderman had assaulted him a month prior. An investigation was prompted after a hospital nurse contacted the Indiana State Police, according to RTV 6.

According to police, the Wigle-Stevens said Fledderman contacted him for a massage, while Fledderman’s wife was out of town. Fledderman reportedly told investigators he found the man online through his website.

After the massage, Fledderman paid Wigle-Stevens $170. Wigle-Stevens said the two then discussed politics for about three hours.

Police said the men met again a few days later, and Fledderman paid Wigle-Stevens an additional $250. Fledderman claimed the money was for blackmail, while Wigle-Stevens claimed it was the cost for the extra time spent together.

Although Fledderman told police all acts were consensual, according to court documents, Wigle-Stevens claimed Fledderman tried to kiss him and forced his head into Fledderman’s groin area.

The Ripley County Superior Court will set the initial hearings for the two men, although those dates have not yet been released, according to WLWT.
