Bartender At Diner Gets $1,000 Tip From Trucker (Photo)

A Nebraska bartender was understandably shocked when she received a $1,000 tip.

In 2015, Kari Anthony was working her evening shift at Quaker Steak and Lube in Grand Island, Nebraska, when she served a customer who turned out to be a very big tipper, explains the website Little Things.

The customer in question was a truck driver, which is not unusual, considering that the restaurant is located near a truck stop off Interstate 80.

Anthony, a single mother of three children, struck up a conversation with the truck driver, and the two were soon swapping stories about each other’s families.

She told him about being a single mom, and he regaled her with memories of his beloved mother.

“I guess we were able to relate a little bit,” Anthony said. Reportedly, the truck driver thought so, too, because when he finished eating and paid his bill, she was astonished to see that he added gratuity in the amount of $1,000.

As the receipt reveals, the man’s bill at the modest bar and eatery was $89.72, so he apparently enjoyed more than a few drinks while chatting with the lucky bartender, which might help explain his act of generosity.

She politely told him that such an extravagant tip was not necessary but he insisted, even after Anthony’s manager intervened by asking the trucker if he really wanted to add so much money to the bill.

Not only did he insist on leaving her the exorbitant tip, but he also picked up the tabs for all the customers he spoke to while drinking at the bar.

Before leaving, he told Anthony to use the money to do something special for her kids. So she took his advice and treated her youngsters to the Nebraska State Fair.

“They got to go to the fair and play games and all the other stuff,” she explained. “Normally, because of situations, I would have not been able to do that. But I was able to because of that gentleman. I am just extremely grateful.”

The story was shared to's Facebook page, and the comments came rolling in.

"God bless that man! And keep him safe in his travels," said one user.

"I wish I could afford to do that to someone , even just once," said another.
