A Pennsylvania barber shop owner was fined for refusing to give a woman a haircut (video below).
John Interval, owner the Barbiere, just outside of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, says his barber shop is a place for men to relax with a drink while they get their hair cut. But now, his business is facing legal action for discriminating against women.
"Paperwork started showing up and I'm like 'Oh my God,'" Interval said. "I didn't really consider it so much a discrimination thing as it's a barbershop, you know."
Interval says he intends to respect the law and will pay the $750 fine.
Interval refused to cut a woman's hair, so she filed an action with the state's Bureau of Professional and Occupational Affairs.
"You know, I'm not opposed to doing women's hair," he said. "Just not in this shop. I don't even have (the equipment) to do women's hair. I want to open a shop to cater to them and no men will be allowed there. They'll have all the champagne and mimosas they want, and that'll be on the house."
