A Utah baby sitter was arrested and charged with child abuse in the death of a 21-month-old baby she was caring for.
Jaycieion Sanchez died after sustaining several injuries that were inconsistent with the statements given by the baby sitter. The 17-year-old boy was taken into custody after authorities determined that the Jaycieion was abused.
The 21-month-old child was found unconscious. The toddler was airlifted to a regional hospital for treatment, but later died.
"Despite medical efforts at the scene and by hospital staff, the child did not survive," West Valley Police confirmed in a press release, KUTV reported.
"He always followed me everywhere, I will never forget you Jay, I will never forget you," the toddler's mother told KUTV.
Police told the station the 17-year-old could potentially be charged as an adult. The victim's mother said she "would not rest" until justice was served.
The baby's family subsequently launched a GoFundMe page to help cover funeral costs.
"Yesterday my whole world stopped.. I lost my youngest son the worst way possible now i must plan a funeral for my son . i am a single mother funeral expenses are not in my reach this wont bring my baby back but atleast he can be buried properly," Jaycieion's mother wrote on the page.
Many people who donated to the funeral fundraiser offered condolences for the mother's loss.
"I am so sorry for your loss," one contributor commented. "My wife and I recently lost our 9 month old. I wish I could offer some comforting words, but I know nothing can fill the void you are feeling in your heart at this time. Reach out to family and others as much as you can and seek out a support group when you are ready. It can help soften the pain knowing there are others out there that have had to experience the greatest loss anyone could ever face. God bless you and your family."

In a similar incident, an 18-year-old woman in San Antonio, Texas, was arrested and accused of sexually assaulting a 4-year-old boy.
Esmeralda Medellin was baby sitting the victim when she reportedly forced him to perform sex acts on her, reports WOAI. The boy told his mother and she contacted police, who arrested Medellin.
DNA results confirmed the allegations, and Medellin was ultimately charged with aggravated sexual assault of a child.
