A 3-month-old boy in New York City died after he became sick at an unlicensed day care in the city's SoHo neighborhood.
Law enforcement officials arrived at SoHo Child Care on Monday afternoon where they discovered 3-month-old Karl Towndrow in need of medical attention, according to PIX 11.
The baby was then taken to Lenox Hill Hospital in critical condition. He was later pronounced dead by doctors.
Though the baby reportedly had no signs of trauma, he had been put to sleep on his back.
Upon further investigation, the NYPD discovered none of the workers at the center knew how to perform CPR. The New York City Health Department later found that the center was unlicensed and therefore illegal.
Day cares are supposed to be licensed with the state and overseen by the Department of Health.
There were 14 other children at the day care. Their parents later picked them up.
Upon hearing the story, several readers took to Facebook to voice their opinions and concerns.
“Did they check to see if the child care was legal with paperwork and research?” one user wrote. “Nowadays you really can’t leave your children anywhere.”
“Why would you bring your child to an unlicensed day care????” asked another user.
