Woman Found Buried With Perfume And Potato Chips

On Sept. 20, the body of 34-year-old Valerie Tieman was found buried in a shallow grave behind the house of her in-laws, in Fairfield, Maine.

The autopsy report, obtained Oct. 17 by The Morning Sentinel, reveals that she was buried along with a bag of potato chips, a bottle of perfume and a mysterious “apologetic” note, reports CBS News.

According to the document, she had been shot twice, including an “indeterminate range entrance wound of the right parietal scalp,” and a “penetrating gunshot wound of the right posterior neck.”

Her husband, 32-year-old Luc, was arrested and charged with the murder. According to what he initially told police, she disappeared on Aug. 30 from the parking lot of the Walmart in the nearby town of Skowhegan, possibly in the company of another man.

He never reported her missing, and it wasn’t until a week later that her parents filed a missing persons report.

Beth Bradley, a close friend of the victim, didn’t buy the husband’s story, The Morning Sentinel reports.

“I knew Valerie well enough to know she didn’t get up and walk out of the truck," she said. "Maybe Valerie was trying to leave at some point and maybe if he did it, maybe he didn’t want her to go.”

Later, Luc Tieman changed his story, claiming that he witnessed his wife die of an overdose of heroin.

According to a toxicology report accompanying the autopsy report, opioids were indeed found in her system. The identified drugs include Tramadol, defined in the report as a “synthetic opioid receptor agonist used for the management of moderate to moderately severe pain,” and Buprenorphine, a “Schedule III controlled synthetic opioid that has both analgesic and opioid antagonist effects” which is often used to treat opioid dependence.

The report did not reveal any additional details about the “apologetic” note.

In a public statement, Luc Tieman’s attorney cautioned against a “rush to judgment.”
