Armed Washington Man Demands Victim Apologize "For All The Things White People Did To Black People"

35-year-old Washington resident Chikwanha Nyashanu was arrested on Monday after he held a gun to a man’s head and ordered him to apologize “for all of the things white people did to black people.”

He is being held on $500,000 bond.

According to court documents, police were called to the Seattle-area Green Lake Community Center around 9:15 pm on Monday after someone reported that an unknown male had threatened someone with a handgun.

"Responding officers located a possible suspect in the area and ordered him to the ground," the documents read. "The suspect failed to follow the order. The suspect was tased."

After police took Nyashanu into custody, the victim was asked to identify if he was the offender. The court document states that the victim identified the man as the "same person who had just pointed a handgun at him for 15-20 seconds and demanded he apologize for all the things white people did to black people."

The victim told the officers that he was “scared out of his mind” during the holdup. He offered Nyashanu his wallet, but he was not interested in money. He just wanted an apology. The victim “apologized profusely” to Nyashanu, who then let him go. Nyashanu’s gun was loaded when police found him, and he had several more rounds of ammunition in his backpack.

Nyashanu has been charged with malicious harassment and second-degree assault. Presiding Judge Arthur R. Chapman called his actions “inexplicable” and labeled him a danger to the community.

“There appears to be no reason for this kind of behavior,” Chapman said.

After his arrest, four more residents came forward and said Nyashanu had held them at gunpoint as well.

This is not Nyashanu’s first encounter with the law. He brought a gun into a bar in 2012 and was concivcted for carrying a pistol in 2002. He also has convictions for obstruction in 2006 and reckless endangerment in 2009.
