Armed N.C. Homeowner Shoots 18-Year-Old Trying to Rob Him

A North Carolina armed robbery ended in the death of one of the robbers.

Four people, all under 23, organized a break-in into a home in Hubert, N.C. Sunday night with a 20-guage shotgun. Michael Holliday and Brian Bailey got into the house while Jonathan Koncir and Jordan Sanford waited in a getaway car outside, according to the incident report from the Onslow County Sheriff’s Office.

Holliday and Bailey demanded money and prescription drugs from the homeowner, John Moore, valued at around $200. But Moore took out his own gun, a .22 caliber handgun, and refused to hand over the goods. When Holliday and Bailey apparently would not leave, Moore fired at Holliday, and the two suspects fled.

Moore called the police to report the incident as the suspects zoomed off in the car. But they crashed into another car on the way to the hospital, and when police arrived and saw Holliday they made the connection to the phone call reporting the break-in and shooting.

Holliday was taken to the Naval Hospital aboard Camp Lejeune, where he was pronounced dead.

The remaining three suspects are being held on $200,000 bond.
