A Florida grandmother who idolizes John Wayne learned a thing or two from the gun-toting actor's characters, using her own pistol to stop a criminal who was trying to escape police.
The Daily Mail reports the real-life drama began at 3am Tuesday. Karen Granville, 64, was up late watching television in her home in Daytona Beach when she heard police helicopters hovering overhead. It seems a stolen car suspect was on the run.
When she heard someone hop her fence, Granville grabbed her gun and went outside. She saw 22-year-old Roderick Willis in her yard.
"I said 'Don’t you move, I will shoot you! Don’t move a muscle!' My adrenaline was just flowing at 100 miles per hour."
Then she said she added the very Duke-like, "Stop right there (expletive), or you're going to be dead where you stand."
Granville said Willis pleaded with her to let him go, but she was having none of that. She trained her gun on him until police arrived.
Willis is charged with eluding law enforcement, driving with a suspended license, use of a vehicle to commit a felony, and possession of illegal drugs with the intention of selling them.
"I think the Duke would be so proud of me," Granville said.
