Arizona Woman Charged With Abducting Daughter After 25 Years On The Run

A woman in Phoenix, Arizona, was arrested and charged for the abduction of her daughter after being on the run for the last 25 years.

Valerie Berry abducted her then 3-year-old daughter in 1990 while going through a divorce, taking her from Santa Clara County, California.

Berry reportedly used aliases that included Aleks Kelsi Webster and Aleksasha Webster, and worked as a professor at Arizona State University until she retired in 2013.

Berry, 56, was wanted since 2002 and was finally captured after police identified her through a former identity, which she used during her time at ASU.

Officials in Santa Clara County reportedly notified the Arizona Attorney General’s office of Berry’s possible location on July 27, and agents began monitoring her the next day. She was arrested and faces up to three years in prison if convicted.

Berry’s daughter, according to reports, lives in another state and has not been identified.
