An American woman has been stabbed to death following an altercation in a restroom stall at a shopping mall in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. According to the Daily Mail, the attack took place at Boutik Mall, a luxury shopping complex located on Reem Island. The suspect has yet to be identified, and is still at large.
The victim of the attack was 37 years old. She lived in Abu Dhabi and worked as a private school teacher. Although her identity has yet to be revealed, police indicated that she has two sons, 11-year-old twins. She also has a husband, who was out of the country when the attack took place. He has reportedly returned to Abu Dhabi to be with his sons. In the meantime, the sons are being watched and cared for by community police.
Although witnesses describe an argument taking place inside the mall restroom, local police claim that a motive has yet to be established.
“Police found the woman lying on the floor bleeding,” said Colonel Rashid Bourshid, director of the criminal investigation department of Abu Dhabi police. “She had serious wounds after being stabbed with a knife during a brawl with the attacker. No reason has been established as to why the woman was murdered. The attacker fled the scene after stabbing the woman.”
According to The National, the victim of the attack was taken to Sheikh Khalifa Medical City for treatment but died as a result of her injuries. A surveillance camera captured footage of the alleged attacker leaving the mall, and has been released to the public. Given the suspect's black niqab that covers her face, her identity is difficult to discern from the images.
