American Family Association: Transgender Homecoming Queen Is Mentally Ill, ‘Violates Every Known Standard Of Decency’ (Video)

Anti-LGBT pastor Bryan Fischer of the American Family Association says California transgender homecoming queen Cassidy Lynn Campbell is mentally ill and “his” election was a “charade.”

“We got this guy in Huntington Beach who has been name the homecoming queen,” Fischer said on his radio show Monday, refusing to refer to 16-year-old Campbell with female pronouns.

“He’s a guy,” he added. “He’s a male in every single solitary cell of his body. He has gender identity disorder. In other words, he has a mental illness. He thinks he’s a girl, and they elected him homecoming queen.”

He ripped apart the school for allowing Campbell to participate.

“School officials allowed this charade to go on,” he said. “So that violates everything we know about gender, about sex, about genetics, about biology, about human health, about what mental health is, it violates every known standard of decency and normality in America.”

He blasted CBS for repeatedly referring to Campbell as “she” in their article.

“Six times they refer to this guy as ‘she,’” he said.

Since winning Friday night, Campbell has received bullying messages on Twitter and other social media.

“There’s always someone with something stupid to say,” Vincent Villano of the National Center for Transgender Equality (NCTE) told Raw Story.

He said that for every commentator against Campbell, there are thousands who support her.

“Fischer isn’t convincing anyone with his shameful comments,” Villano added. He added that the pastor’s comments are “out of line” and show that he has “no understanding of who trans people are.”

Fischer’s remarks are not only discriminatory against the transgender community, they are also discriminatory against people with mental illness, who Fischer believes should not be accommodated be they are not “normal.”

In a opinion piece he wrote in September 2011, Fischer said the ABC show “Dancing With The Stars” was guilty of exploiting mental illness by having transgender Chaz Bono on the show.

“It’s bizarre, by the way, to find ourselves as a culture celebrating Chaz Bono’s sexual mutilation while at the same time we try to stop the female genital mutilation of young girls in Islamic countries,” he wrote. “This kind of schizophrenia is certainly a sign that Chaz Bono is not the only one with mental health issues.”

“The pro-family movement is relentlessly demonized by those who want to normalize sexual aberrations,” he added.
