The Fresno Police Department launched an internal investigation into two yet-to-be-named members of its police force after an amateur video revealed the officers repeatedly punching a homeless man during an arrest Monday.
KSEE, which originally aired the video, identified the man attacked as 52-year-old Glen Beaty. Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer told KSEE that "Beaty had previous violent confrontations with authorities, and that his record includes resisting arrest and injuring a sheriff's deputy."
However, according to KSEE, Dyer was also quoted as saying, "The initial reaction of people that view this video will be one of disbelief...It will be one that in some cases may shock individuals." A story on CNN said Beaty was arrested on a felony warrant Monday, according to Dyer.
