Accused Child Sex Offender Left Notes For Detectives Before Being Found Dead In Jail Cell

A martial arts instructor from Portland, Oregon, accused of child sex abuse was found dead in his jail cell after reportedly leaving notes for detectives revealing details about more victims.

OregonLive reports 35-year-old Eben Kaneshiro was pronounced dead in his jail cell on April 26 after guards found him unresponsive and responders attempted to save his life. Kaneshiro, who owned a jiujitsu academy, was arrested last week on charges of having sex with a male child under the age of 12.

“It's really kind of taken me aback and taken the community aback because he's such a solid guy and we never had any inkling that he could be involved in something like this,” local resident Nate Quarry told KPTV.

According to the Deschutes County District Attorney’s Office, Kaneshiro left notes in his cell for detectives in which he revealed more details about the nature of the abuse he inflicted as well as the names of other victims.

An autopsy revealed Kaneshiro committed suicide by asphyxiation. The martial arts instructor was being held on $500,000 bail and was set to face a judge this week.
