911 Tapes From Reno Hospital Reveal Shooter's Motive

Newly released 911 tapes reveal why Alan Oliver Frazier opened fire at a Reno hospital, killing one doctor and injuring two others before turning the gun on himself.

Frazier believed a botched vasectomy he had at the urology clinic had ruined his life.

The 51-year-old had been a patient at Renown Regional Medical Center in 2010. He reportedly still suffered pain from the surgery.

On Dec. 17, he entered the Urology Nevada office carrying a 12-gauge shotgun and told patients to leave or he’d shoot them.

"He says, 'As long as you're a patient, you can leave. Otherwise I'm going to shoot you,'" said a man who called 911.

He told the dispatch that the shooter was "pissed off because he had a vasectomy here and it ruined his life."

Another caller, a woman hiding under a desk in an exam room, whispered, "I hear gunshots outside my office. I just heard another one. ... He's going to (expletive) kill us."

"Oh, my God. ... He's outside my door," she said.

Gunfire can be heard on the tape released Tuesday.

Frazier shot and killed Dr. Charles G. Gholdoian, 46, president of Urology Nevada. He critically wounded Dr. Christine Lajeunesse and seriously injured Shantae Spears, the relative of a patient. Then he committed suicide.

Frazier reportedly complained about the pain he experienced from the vasectomy on an Internet chat room, city spokeswoman Sharon Spangler said.

His former fiancée told the Associated Press that he took medication for depression. The two were only together for 18 months, but she told investigators that Frazier had been suicidal at least once during their relationship.
