An 86-year-old woman was viciously attacked and left for dead in her Mississippi home by an unknown assailant who stole her car.
Georgie McKee, known as Ms. Georgia, woke up on New Years Eve in her home in Southaven, Miss., about 20 miles south of Memphis, and was greeted by a frightening sight in the mirror: her face was bloody, batted, and bruised, with one black eye. She called her friend Rawley Cain for help.
"There was blood on countertops, cabinets, and on the floor," Cain said of finding Ms. Georgia in her home, the doors unlocked and the car missing.
"It breaks my heart, it really does," he said. "She's 86 now. Weighs about 75, 80 pounds. Real small person, but has a heart as big as the world."
Cain is a singer in Ms. Georgia’s favorite band, Delta Blues, which she has been following for more than a decade. Ms. Georgia schedules the band’s shows and is a dear friend to Cain and the other band members.
Ms. Georgia, who has since been released from a Southaven hospital, cannot remember what happened. Police say there is no evidence of forced entry or items missing from her home. They are continuing their investigating while Cain is calling on the public for any tips that might help. He believes that the attacker tried to kill the elderly woman.
"They tried to cut her throat ... And she was bleeding there," said Cain.
“It’s a good thing I wasn’t there or didn’t catch him after the fact,” he said of the attacker. “And I don’t know what I would do now if I was face to face with him.”
Police are still searching for Ms. Georgia’s car, a silver 2003 Chevy Impala with handicap tag E271D.
