An 81-year-old Wisconsin man who made threats against the life of President Obama has been arrested and faces time in jail.
Elwyn Fossedal reportedly made the threat last month at a local post office and repeated it several times, including while being interviewed by Secret Service agents.
Prosecutors allege that Fossedal was in a post office near his home last month when he stated, “If President Obama was here I would shoot him right there and kill him right now.”
Secret Service agents reportedly interviewed Fossedal after he made the initial threat and he “repeated the threat using different words. He also made a number of additional threats towards the President,” according to a felony complaint.
The Smoking Gun also notes that Fossedal appears to be a “birther” based on comments he has posted online. He has called for Obama’s impeachment over the Affordable Care Act and declared that, “We need to throw the Muslim in the White House, OUT.”
Agents found out that Fossedal is very familiar with firearms, and deemed him a threat. It was also learned that his wife of 57 years passed away last month.
Fossedal faces a maximum of five years in prison, if convicted of the threat.
