A South Carolina woman defended her friend when a man attacked her with a baseball.
72-year-old Frances Ward hired 54-year-old Richard Keese to fix her car last month, but when the man showed up this past Monday with intentions to break into her home, all hell broke loose.
Ward’s friend immediately grabbed a baseball bat after Keese stormed into the house, but the man grabbed it from the woman and began to brutally beat her. Ward, who witnessed the beating, grabbed her gun and shot at Keese.
“If he hadn’t of been standing up, I would have hit him right here with the gun,” said Ward, “because I was aiming for his forehead to kill him, because he was beating the daylights out of her with that ball bat and I wasn’t going to let that happen.”
“They could have killed her if I had not shot him,” added Ward.
Police originally thought that the injury on his forehead was from the bullet grazing his head, but they now believe it was caused by the attacked woman fighting back.
The shot fired by Ward scared Keese off, but police did wind up arresting him, and he’s now been charged with attempted murder, first-degree burglary, and trespassing.
Police agree with Ward’s claim that she was acting in self-defense, so she will not be charged with anything.
